COPYRIGHT NOTICE AND DETAILS:
Reproduction of original work on this site, including the logo, is prohibited other than in accordance with the copyright notice below, which forms part of these terms and conditions.
ALL ORIGINAL CONTENT ON THIS SITE IS COPYRIGHTED 2001 to Present by Lori Fogg, A Coalcracker In The Kitchen, All Rights Reserved. This includes, but is not limited to, my logo, banners, page/post layouts, and included personal stories.
The vast majority of recipes on my blog come from boxes full of handwritten notes or printouts that were my Mom’s or Grandmother’s. There is frequently no way for me to identify the origin of those recipes, therefore there is no attribution attached to those recipes. If I can identify the source, it will be noted on the recipe card. Otherwise, my source of the posted recipes on my blog is my family archives.
Are recipes copyright protected?
According to US Copyright law, a mere listing of ingredients or contents, or a simple set of directions, is un-copyrightable. (Copyright.gov, Circular 33). That means you might find the same recipe other places (other blogs, websites, etc). I make no copyright claim to those specific elements — and neither can any one else. I do hold copyright on text, stories, and explanations contained in the posts that accompany the recipes.
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should
Copying and pasting just recipes you find here, or on any blog, to social media or another site isn’t usually in violation of copyright laws, but the goal of running a blog is to direct readers to it for the content; sharing it by copying and pasting negatively affects traffic to a site.
Blog traffic means potential advertising earnings. Although advertising earnings do not constitute “making a living”, they can help defray the several hundred dollars a year it costs me to keep this site up for readers to — use free of charge. As “Location. Location. Location” is the mantra of real estate, “Traffic. Traffic. Traffic” is the life-blood of a blog.
Please be respectful concerning the effort and the many hours of work that go into this blog.
